Full Description: This is a beautiful wood with tall trees and a fine views. The 40-50 year old Scots pine have been well cared for and are in excellent condition. They are ideally suited to this site, and have already had their final thinning, ready for clear felling in a few years time. Amongst them, some chestnut coppice is springing up. Elsewhere in the wood some of the coppice is already large enough to cut. Chestnut is a fine wood, very rot resistant and very strong, useful for making fence posts or rustic furniture, or of course for firewood. To complete the picture, along the top of the slope there are a dozen or so maturing oaks. Within the wood you will find a pheasant pen, which could be made use of to protect young trees, should you want to plant some– perhaps from your own acorns.
This is part of Brewers Wood, considered to be Ancient Semi-Natural Woodland, and lies in the High Weald AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).
