Full Description: Boundary Wood is situated within the the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and there is much here to captivate the woodland enthusiast amongst the ancient woodland glades.
The rich mix of native deciduous trees at once impresses the visitor, in particular some fine specimens of beech, ash and oak which lie amongst former hazel coppice and a shrub layer of hawthorn, dogwood and wych elm.
In spring the woodland floor is adorned with a wide variety of beautiful ground flora, including wood anemones and Soloman's Seal and the autumnal leaf litter and wind blow has provided an ideal habitat for some interesting fungus formations.
A gated parking area provides easy access to Boundary Wood and provides an ideal base for family forestry projects and recreational visits.
The surrounding area near Crickley Hill is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), with a range of habitats from unimproved limestone grassland to mature beech woodland, it is also of major geological interest due to the limestone outcrops around its boundary.
Nearby Cirencester, known as the "Capital Of The Cotswolds", is steeped in Roman history with attractions from a Roman Ampitheatre to the nearby Chedworth Roman Villa. The Corinium Museum in a good source of information on the local history. Cheltenham, approximately 5 miles to the north, is along with Cirencester an important economic regional centre.
