Gary Neville’s Eco House Plans Could Open the Door to a New Kind of Housing Development

Gary Neville Eco HouseDid anyone read the article last week about the new ECO house Manchester United star Gary Neville is planning to build or should I say dig!!!

Basically the environmentally conscious player has submitted a planning application to Bolton City Council to build/dig an 8,000sq, single storey, 4 bedroom luxury house into a hillside in Bradshaw, Bolton.  On the build site currently stands his enormous mansion, if the planning application is approved the underground house will become his new home.

The concept of building underground isn’t all that new, there are plenty of websites marketing the idea and the benefits of living underground but this I believe is the first time a major celebrity has effectively endorsed the idea. If Gary Neville gets planning

permission to build his new home this could become the start of something more mainstream. The major benefit of building into the ground rather than out of it is that there is little impact on the surrounding view because the roof is covered with earth and grass. This could open the door to development in areas which would not normally meet with planning approval due to the minimal adverse visual and environmental impact.

Subsequently greenbelt land or land classed as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty might one day be built upon more freely!
